This is a sort of tutorial but since black lips are harder to maintain than other colours I thought I should do a "tutorial" how to get black lips. Of course you can do this tutorial with any colour lipstick.
I don't really wear black lips myself except for some fun look since it really is messy and I'd worry too much about it running down my face or accidentally wiping it to cheek :D
Black lipstick makes your lips look smaller than they are (like most dark colours do) so just a word of warning if you have really small lips.
I apologise the lips aren't as good as I would've wanted but I was running out of daylight since I did this after work so I had to do everything quickly before it would come too dark.
So let's start...
1. Scrub your lips (this is essential if you want your lipstick to look smooth). I used Lush's Lip Dip.
2. Moisturise your lips and let it sink in for a while. You don't want to have greasy lips when you start applying lipstick/lipliner.
3. Liner your lips. I didn't have any lipliner in black so I used eyeliner BUT you can use almost any colour lipliner (preferably as dark as you can find) to line your lips and if you want the lipstick to stick better then colour your lips with it too. I used my purple lipliner after doing this tutorial and you can't see the lipliner underneath and as long as you colour lipstick over the lipliner (without going beyond) it will work as fine. If you use eyeliner then make sure it isn't too creamy or too hard (creamy will just do a mess and too hard doesn't do anything).
If you want before using eyeliner you can use lip primer or powder but powder dries my lips too much and I don't even have a lip primer so can't tell how well they actually work.
4. Colour lips first with brush and then if you want to add more then use straight from tube without going over the liner. I used Manic Panic's black lipstick which is favourited by a lot of goths.
5. Make sure you take all the extra lipstick off and make it look neat since as you can see black lipstick doesn't forgive you if you have gone over the lines (I only noticed that it looks like that when I took the photo). But now you're done!
If you want matte black lips and don't have matte black lipstick then just reach for some matte black eyeshadow. Pat it on with either brush or finger (depend on which one you want to get messy). I didn't use too much matte black e/s for this so if you want even more matte just take your time. It didn't dry out my lips or anything but that really depends on the lipstick quality too.
Or if you want to look like you have liquid latex on lips then just take either clear or some lightly coloured lipgloss and pat it on. If you don't want to ruin your lipgloss don't use anything with wand or tube you can't wipe/wash afterwards from the black lipstick.
That's it! You're ready to go to a goth club ;) Remember to take your lipstick with you since for sure it will be transferred to your bloo-- I mean red wine glass.

I really want to try this, I will look into the manic panic =) x
ReplyDeleteI think most goth shops in Camden sell them :D Or online goth shops.
