I've meant to have a review of this product for quite a long. When I used this last evening in shower I thought that I really need to do this tomorrow so I took some pics today and here you go.
Let's start with what Soap&Glory says:
"It’s a scrub, formulated to leave even the most exhausted face looking FRESH. With a super fresh chamomile and mint scent. We’re pretty sure this is self-explanatory. But go ahead and write to us if we are wrong.
The Greatest Scrub Of All™ has a strategic blend of super-gentle silicami particles, and salicylic acid loaded scrub beads, the more you scrub, the more it smoothes. Like DIY microdermabrasion. Suitable for all skin types – if you adjust the frequency according to whether you are sensitive, dry, normal or oily.
What’s inside that counts?
- Superfine Ground Silicami: that rolls across the skin to lift off dead cells without scratching
- Salicylic Acid: that activate when you start scrubbing, for a double boost of smooth.
How do you do, it?
Apply a pea-sized amount onto damp skin and smooth around the face, paying particular attention to blackheads, blocked pores, flaky foreheads and oily chins. Rinse well, pat dry and then apply moisturiser. Use 2-4 times/week for oily skin – less often for dry/sensitive types."
So yes, that's a quite long description for the product but then again at least you get all the info you need from their website from how it works to how to use it and even ingredients (listed later).
First about the company and how to buy the product.
Company
When I first bought this product it was the first time I even saw/heard about this company. I think I got my hands to this scrub few years ago (I still use the same tube) in Boots in Cambridge.
I love that the company uses old - or at least old-looking - black and white pictures on their products/website. Brings that old time glamour feeling.
They don't test their products on animals but I will quote them to get to the bottom of it: "At Soap & Glory, we absolutely do not test our formulations on animals, however we can’t say that each and every ingredient that goes into them has not, at some point historically, been cleared for human use, by animal testing."
Where to buy it and how much for?
You can buy products from Harvey Nichols, Boots and ASOS. Also from some Shoppers Drug Market stores in Canada and Target in USA.
Price in UK is £8.17 for 125 ml.
And my thoughts about it...
The packaging
I like the squeeze tube, tbh all the scrubs I have are in squeeze tubes and they're the easiest way to use the product in shower. Except today I noticed one change in the packaging with the two tubes I have - still have the few years old one and new one which I bought last autumn: the cap.
Yes, the old one has pop up cap and the new one has one you have to "screw" open which will suck to use in shower. I'm not sure can I move the old cap to the new tube once I'm done but I will try since I honestly hate the non pop up caps in these type of products.
Product itself
The product is white that has really tiny particles in it and then some bigger ones (show in the photo as brownish spots) that will burst open when you press them. When you scrub your face with this it feels like you'd have sand on your face. The product is really full of tiny scrubbing particles so you really don't need to press hard to get this to work - and I don't even suggest pressing hard when scrubbing with this, the product does the work easily.
My face is way smoother after using this and I really like the feeling of it working on my skin.
Ingredients
Aqua (Water), Stearyl Alcohol, CI 77492 (Iron Oxide), Polysorbate 20, Glycerin, Salicylic Acid, Mannitol, Magnesium Nitrate, Xanthan Gum, CI 16035 (Red 40), Parfum (Fragrance), Cellulose, Disodium EDTA, Paraffinum Liquidum, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Amyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Cetyl Alcohol, Solum Diatomeae (Diatomaceous Earth)
This product is full of stuff I can't even pronounce yet alone know what they do without peaking to the book I have of ingredients in cosmetic use. Even if it doesn't look too appealing to me I will continue using this just because I haven't found anything as good yet and it works with my skin.
Would I suggest it or buy it again?
I have bought another tube so I will use this again. The scrub is made for all skintypes but since I don't have sensitive skin or really dry skin I really can't tell if this is a good product for your skin. It doesn't dry my skin so at least it isn't too drying but it might be a bit too harsh on some skins. Of course this you can control yourself with how often, how much product you use and to have your face really moist before using this.
A tip from the owner of the company
"Want to pump up your scrub? Squirt a little lemon juice into your favourite facial scrub to boost its natural brightening power and exfoliating action. (Lemon juice contains citric acid, one of the five alpha-hydroxy-acids that dissolve the glue that keeps dead cells stuck to your skin)."
Have you tried this product or anything else from Soap&Glory? What was your experience?
