For this comparison I just swatched 8 different foundations I own - most of them being the lightest possible shade from the company/foundation range. I left out my Joe Blasco one since I knew it would be too dark, I also use it as an under-eye concealer mostly nowadays since it's way too dark for me.
So yeah, these 8 are the ones I took for this comparison:
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra - 010 Beige Porcelaine
Revlon ColorStay - 150 Buff
Lumene Skin Support - 10 Pale Porcelain (Lumiverho)
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - 51 Light Vanilla
Revlon PhotoReady - 002 Vanilla
Benecos Natural Creamy Make-up - Nude
Oriflame Matte Control Foundation - Porcelain
Gosh X-Ceptional Wear - 11 Porcelain
Out of all of those I doubt you can get your hands on Lumene anymore. But it's also a Finnish brand that should make really light colours but it isn't light enough for me in winter.
About Revlon ones: There is lighter version available from both. From PhotoReady it's called Ivory and it's more pinkish than yellow and from ColorStay it's also called Ivory. I just couldn't get my hands on these since the only shop nearby that sold these didn't have them left when they had them on offer - they stopped selling Revlon alltogether. I will buy lighter ones as soon as I find them from somewhere. Taking suggestions about this since I really like both products!
Here are the swatches (thickly applied with finger to show you the base colour also):
And they were swatched in this order (upper row is 1-4 and lower 5-8)
As you can see the upper row are the darkest ones. I was actually surprised that Benecos looked so light since it looks really orange-y when I take it from the tube. Lightest of all the foundations I have by far is Gosh's X-Ceptional Wear which is my go-to-product in winter since it's quite thick and nicely matte - too heavy to wear in summer. It's followed by Oriflame (which is a Swedish brand so meant for Scandinavian skin).
PhotoReady is quite fair already so getting the Ivory would probably be really good for fair-skinned. I doubt Ivory from ColorStay would be as light.
Lancôme is more pinkish than yellow - probably closest to neutral but since it's really think it blends to my skin perfectly. I wore it to my previous LOTD so you can see that it doesn't look too dark - my neck is just horribly white compared to my face even without make up so it does look quite bad.
Also my arm is really white as you can see, my face has now tanned already - and like I said before: I hate it! But that gives me chance to wear the darker (for me) foundations and freckles do make me look darker than I am.
But yes, my arm where I swatched is probably as white as anyone can go - it's almost see-through white - so if you can't really find a foundation and you want matte/heavy coverage foundation then go ahead and try the Gosh one.
One trick you can always do if you really want to use some foundation but it isn't light enough for you - mix it with white foundation. Not sure which companies have white ones, I only have one from Stargazer which is really heavy, but I think bigger ones that also have range for stage makeup would have them.

I looove the Gosh X-ceptional wear,it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you know the brand Farmasi, they have very light shades of foundations and concealers.
Kryolan is also a great brand for light colored make up.I have one of their foundations in white,so I can mix it with other foundations, which are too dark for me.
I have this same problem with foundation, they never seem to be light enough! I am just finishing one so I am going to be on the hunt for a new foundation again! So thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteBest, Lisamarie
I didn't know about Farmasi so thank you :) Will check them out. Oh yes of course Kryolan has white and I think MAC does too (pro probably).
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Lisamarie :)
too dark foundation is my problem too! So thanks for this comparison... I'm looking for revlon colorstay Ivory..I hope to find it!
ReplyDeleteI know that Face Atelier has white product called Zero minus or something like that. I use Face Atelier's Ultra foundation in Ivory. It's great foundation, but quite pricy and unfortunately not available in Northern Europe.:( So I had to order it online.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to buy foundations online since they can look light on the screen but they end up being really dark when I get my hands on them.
ReplyDeleteHope you find the Ivory one Alice and it's light enough :)
